Position Overview

DOI sites, from parks to refuges to reservoirs, use skilled Motor Vehicle Operators to safely move people, equipment and materials where they need to be.  They really do help drive the DOI mission every day.

Candidate Description

The ideal candidate is dependable, can obtain and maintain a Driver’s License, and is able to concentrate and operate vehicles safely in a variety of road and traffic conditions.

Work Environment

Work is performed outdoors in all types of traffic, weather, and road conditions.

Responsibilities by Level

  • Entry:

    • Driving cars, vans, pickup trucks up to 10,000 lbs
    • Loading, unloading and transporting people, materials

  • Mid:

    • Driving cars, vans, pickup trucks up to 10,000 lbs
    • Loading, unloading and transporting people, materials

  • Journey:

    • Operating cargo vans, dump trucks, tractors or other vehicles over 10,000 lbs
    • Operating airboats or other watercraft up to 22 feet
    • Ensures that loads are properly distributed and secured from shifting

  • Senior:

    • Towing or delivering equipment or material to various work sites
    • Driving on rough, unimproved roads
    • Maneuvering oversized vehicles on narrow, winding roads
