Position Overview

Financial Administrators manage, allocate and monitor financial resources to help the agency ensure transparency, compliance, effectiveness and accountability in financial management. They assess risk: detect fraud, waste and abuse; and, analyze accounting data to recommend solutions supportive of program goals.

Candidate Description

The ideal candidate has strong quantitative analysis skills and can identify trends in data. She or he communicates well and can think strategically while effectively managing details.

Work is performed in an office setting.

Responsibilities by Level

  • Entry:

    • Entering and processing data into various accounts
    • Examining financial management documents for proper classification and authorization
    • Performing reconciliations
    • Preparing routine financial management reports
    • Analyzing financial and statistical data from various sources

  • Mid:

    • Supporting the  planning and performance of  financial management studies
    • Reviewing, analyzing and reconciling financial system reports
    • Testing and evaluating financial system software
    • Reviewing and analyzing financial reports to identify problems and address weaknesses
    • Preparing routine financial reports and statements

  • Journey:

    • Planning, developing and coordinating financial management improvements
    • Advising program managers on financial policies and data interpretation
    • Analyzing process flows and recommending improvements to reduce costs or improve operations
    • Devising new methods to identify financial trends and patterns
    • Developing financial policy and providing policy interpretation

  • Senior:

    • Formulating major financial management policy and providing authoritative interpretation/decision-making on financial management policy
    • Administering the development of organizational responses to OMB, GAO, Treasury proposals
    • Defining specifications and overseeing the development of complex financial systems that produce critical accounting and financial information
